TOURNAMENT RULES&PROCEDURES:

 

All participants who are registered to the tournament are counted that they have already read and accepted to obey all the rules&procedures written below. Detailed information about the rules will be given before the start of the event.

 

 

BEGINNING:

·         Championship will start on 29th July, Friday at 12:00 PM with Modern Backgammon, Jackpot and WBF-Turkiye patented Arena side actions. Participating in any side action is totally optional and during this first day, detailed information about the main event starting the next day will be given. Modern Backgammon side event will be finished until the end of first day.

·         On 30th July, Saturday, entrants will be accepted to the venue starting at 11:00 AM.

·         After their arrival, entrants have to check in by visiting the information desk, get their draw sheet numbers by a manually random draw, sit to the places shown by tournament staff and wait for the start.

·         After the arrival of already registered players and the draw process, all start will be given at 12:00 PM. If there are any absent players when the first two matches are finished, those players will be forfeited and they will be replaced with substitudes.

 

 

TOURNAMENT SYSTEM:

·         This tournament will be directed with a 26 Double Elimination style according to WBF-Turkiye traditional backgammon (Tavla) rules&procedures.

·         In Double Elimination style, there are 2 parts in draw sheet, Winners and Losers. In 1st Round, all participants are put into Winners Group according to manually random draw and start their matches. During the event, when a player gets his/her first loss, he/she starts playing in Losers Group and continues the event until he/she gets his/her second loss. The final match is played between the winners of each group. If the winner of Losers Group wins the match, then finalists play one last match to find the champion.

·         It is decided that maximum attendance of 64 players will be accepted to the event. Tournament director keeps the right to raise this quota in case of high attendance and/or reject the participation of any individual without giving a reason.

 

 

SIDE ACTIONS:

·         During the event, all participants will have the chance to try their skill against WBF-Turkiye masters in 4 side actions, Modern Backgammon, Jackpot, Double Consulting and WBF-Turkiye patented Arena events.

·         Apart from Modern Backgammon side action which will be finished at the end of first day, other side actions will continue until the end of the event on 31th of July.

·         Tournament Director keeps the right to reject the participation of any player who is still playing in main event to play in a side action at the same time.

·         Detailed information about side actions will be given on 30th and 31st August at the venue.

 

 

WBF-TURKIYE TRADITIONAL BACKGAMMON (TAVLA) RULES:

Tavla is played similarly as modern backgammon is played. There are some little differences which are mentioned below:

 

·         Tavla is played cubeless. There are no doubling actions and no Crawford Rule.

·         In the opening roll of the first game of the match, each player rolls 1 die. Whoever rolls the higher number takes both dice in his hands and rolls again to make the opening move of the match. In the opening roll of subsequent games, the winner of the last game rolls both dice and starts the game.

·         Usually total of 2 dice are used. One side rolls and moves, then the opponent takes the dice and rolls. However, a player has the right to request playing with 4 dice (2 for each player).

·         The most important speciality of Tavla is that a player cannot change the places of his/her checkers as he/she is trying to find the best move. When a checker is put on a slot and hand contact is lost, it is not possible to take it back. In other words, a player's move automatically ends when he/she has lifted his/her hand from the last checker to be moved.

·         It is not obliged to throw the dice on the right side of the board. Plus, it is not cocked if one die lands on the left and the other one on the right side of the board.

·         Single games worths 1 point, gammons and backgammons both worth 2 points.

·         Other rules of Tavla are the same as modern backgammon.

 

GAMEPLAY DETAILS:

·         The direction of gameplay and the colour of checkers are chosen by mutual agreement. In case of dispute, dark colour moves anticlockwise and light colour moves clockwise.

·         WBF-Turkiye strongly advices the entrants to use shaking cups as they roll. However, by mutual agreement, players can roll with their hands. If one side requests to play with a shaking cup, then it is obliged to use them.

·         If one die or both dice lands on a checker, they are counted as cocked and must be re-rolled together.

·         For each match, Score Sheets will be given to each player. Each side has to keep the score until the end. At the end of the match, the winner brings both sheets to information desk to get an approval for his/her win. With this approval, staff members write his/her name to next round. Detailed info about how to use Score Sheets will be given before the start of the event.

·         In case of an illegal movement, upon drawing attention to an illegal move, a player may condone or demand the opponent to legally replay the entire roll. Player condones a prior illegal move by rolling the dice.

·         If a player who is stil in the event wants to leave the venue for a time period, he/she has to inform the tournament director and get his approval. Otherwise, he/she gets 1 penalty point for every 5 minutes of his/her absence.

·         During a match, each side can take a single break of 5 minutes. In finals, each side can take 2 breaks of 5 minutes.

 

 

GENERAL:

·         During a game, it is strongly prohibited to talk and behave in a way that leads the opponent to lose his/her concentration.

·         When a dispute arises, without leaving their chairs, all players must leave dice, checkers, and score sheets unchanged while the director is summoned.

·         Entry fees of forfeited players are not given back.

·         All additional expenses entrants make during the event are on their own responsibilities.

·         Playing money games in the tournament venue is prohibited.

 

 

            1st Bodrum Open Traditional Backgammon Championship is organised by Government of Bodrum with the active support of Worldwide Backgammon Federation WBF Turkiye Organization. The event will be directed by WBF`s Turkiye Agent Arda Findikoglu and his professional staff according to WBF rules&procedures. WBF-Turkiye Bodrum Representative Mehmet Daðoðlu will be present at the venue. Bodrum Mayor Mazlum Aðan, Delfi Hotel Owner Mehmet Daðoðlu and Tournament Director Arda Findikoglu with his team wish the best of luck to all participants.
