TOURNAMENT RULES&PROCEDURES:
All participants who are registered to the tournament are counted that they have already read and accepted to obey all the rules&procedures written below. Detailed information about the rules will be given before the start of the event.
BEGINNING:
· Entrants will be accepted to the venue by 10:30 AM on September 16th, Friday.
· After their arrival, entrants have to check in by visiting the registration desk, get their group numbers by the manually random draw, take their seats shown by tournament staff and wait for the start.
· After the arrival of pre-registered players and the draw process, all start will be given at 12:00 PM. Absent players will be forfeited after 40 minutes and be replaced with substitutes.
MAIN EVENT TOURNAMENT FORMAT:
· The main event of the championship will be held in WBF-Turkiye patented Swiss Model Integrated Double Elimination style with modern backgammon rules, in other words, 2 sessions of Swiss Model groups and 27 Double Elimination rounds according to WBF rules&procedures.
1st Round, Swiss Model Groups:
· Players are distributed into the groups of 3 or 4 players each. Those who can achieve to finish their group matches of 9 pointers at most with 1 loss will be qualified for the next round.
In groups of 4 players:
· First pairings are between players numbered 1-2 and 3-4. Then the winners of first matches play each other as the losers play each other at the same time. After 2 matches, the standings according to the amount of wins will be 2/1/1/0.
· The player who wins both two matches in the group stage is automatically qualified for the Winners Bracket of next round in Double Elimination draw sheet.
· Two players who each win one of the two matches they play in the group stage are paired for one last match against each other and the winner of that match is qualified for the Losers Bracket of next round in Double Elimination bracket.
· The player who can't win any matches is eliminated from the main event.
In groups of 3 players:
· First pairing is between players numbered 1 and 2. Second pairing is between the winner of the first match and the player numbered 3. Lastly, third match pairing is between the loser of the first match and the player numbered 3.
· After 3 matches, if the standings according to the amount of wins occur as 2/1/0, the player with 2 wins is qualified for the Winners Bracket as the player with 1 win is qualified for the Losers Bracket of next round in Double Elimination draw sheet. The player who can't win any matches is eliminated from the main event.
· After 3 matches, if the standings according to the amount of wins occur as 1/1/1, all 3 players are qualified for the Losers Bracket of next round in Double Elimination draw sheet.
· The first session of main event will start at 12:00 PM on September 16th, Friday, and the second session will start at 12:00 PM on September 17th, Saturday. Registration for second session will be open for everyone except those who could manage to qualify for the second round in first session.
2nd Round, 27 Double Elimination:
· Starting from the second round till the final, "Main Event" continues in Double Elimination style in a Progressive way.
· In Double Elimination style, there are 2 parts in draw sheet, Undefeated and 2nd Chance. Those who are qualified with no loss are put into Undefeated Bracket, as those who are qualified with 1 loss are put into 2nd Chance Bracket. When a player gets his/her first loss in Undefeated Bracket, he/she starts playing in 2nd Chance group and continues the event until he/she gets his/her second loss. The final match is played between the winners of each brackets. If the winner of 2nd Chance Bracket wins the first match, then finalists play one last match to find the champion.
· Undefeated Bracket matches are 11 pointers until the finals (first final 13 pts / last final 9 pts), 2nd Chance Bracket matches are 9 pointers till 3rd runner-up match, then 11 pointers.
SIDE ACTIONS:
· During the championship, players will have the chance to try their skill against WBF-Turkiye masters in 8 different side actions, "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional", "Alp Eyyupoglu Memorial Doubles Consultation", "Swing", "Elite Club Special", "Mini Jackpots", "Extra Win", "1-Pointer Challenge" and "Ladies Prize".
· As the side actions which are open to all players, "1-Pointer Challenge" and "Mini Jackpots" can be played during 3 days, as "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional" side action starts right after the second session of main event first round on September 17th, Saturday lasting 2 days. "Swing" side action starts right after the dinner breaks on 16th and 17th of September as two sessions and "Alp Eyyupoglu Memorial Doubles Consultation" side action has two sessions as well, one on 16th and the other one on 18th of September.
· Those who could manage to qualify for the second round of "Main Event" can not participate in "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional" side action at the same time.
· Running model of "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional" side action is the same of "Main Event" for the first round and Single Elimination system is applied starting from the second round till the final. In the draw sheet, those who are qualified in first round with no loss start with an advantage of at least 1 round against those who are qualified with 1 loss. Some players between those who are qualified with 1 loss can get some "bye" pairings as well according to the total amount of players qualified for the second round.
· Upon request of adequate amount of players, main director may decide to open a night session for "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional" side action. In that case, it starts at 9:30 PM on September 17th, Saturday right after the dinner break and registration is open to everyone except those who are still not eliminated from "Main Event" or "Bedri Koraman Memorial Traditional" side action. First entries have priority.
· Tournament Director keeps the right to reject the participation of any player who is still playing in a category to play in a side action at the same time. Those who are busy in any action can principally not play in "Swing" or "Alp Eyyupoglu Memorial Doubles Consultation" side actions at the same time. However, main director may decide to let a player in such a situation to join "Alp Eyyupoglu Memorial Doubles Consultation" side action if he/she accepts to let his/her partner to play alone as long as he/she is busy in other actions.
· Detailed information about side actions will be given at the venue during the championship.
WBF-TURKIYE TRADITIONAL BACKGAMMON (TAVLA) RULES:
Tavla is played similarly as modern backgammon is
played. There are some little differences which are mentioned below:
· Tavla is played cubeless. There are no doubling actions and no Crawford Rule.
· In the opening roll of the first game of the match, each player rolls 1 die. Whoever rolls the higher number takes both dice and rolls again to make the opening move of the match. In the opening roll of subsequent games, the winner of the last game rolls both dice and starts the game.
· It is not obliged to throw the dice on the right side of the board. Plus, it is not cocked if one die lands on the left and the other one on the right side of the board.
· Single games worth 1 point, gammons and backgammons both worth 2 points.
·
Other
rules of Tavla are the same as modern backgammon.
GENERAL:
· During a game, it is strongly prohibited to talk and behave in a way that leads the opponent to lose his/her concentration.
· When a dispute arises, without leaving their seats, both players must leave dice, checkers, and score sheets unchanged while the main director is summoned.
· Main Director keeps the right to reject the participation of any player in the championship without giving any reason.
· Entry fees of forfeited players are not given back.
· All additional expenses entrants make during the event are on their own responsibilities.
· Playing money games in the tournament venue is prohibited.
WBF-Turkiye 16th Bodrum Open Backgammon Championship is organized and will be directed according by Worldwide Backgammon Federation, "WBF"'s Turkiye agent Mr. Arda Findikoglu and his professional staff.
